Bihar Assembly Election 2025: The political temperature of Bihar has already risen before the assembly elections. The 16-day 'Voter Rights Yatra' led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is going to conclude in Patna today. This journey started from Sasaram on 17 August and has reached the capital Patna via 23 districts, covering a distance of about 1300 kilometers. The closing ceremony will start from Gandhi Maidan. Where all the big leaders of opposition parties will gather and then an attempt will be made to give a political message through 'Gandhi to Ambedkar March'.
The closing ceremony will begin from Gandhi Maidan. Opposition leaders will gather here and then a padyatra will be taken out from the statue of Mahatma Gandhi to the Ambedkar statue located at the High Court. This march will pass through SP Verma Road, Dak Bangla Chowk, Kotwali Thana and Nehru Path and will end at Ambedkar Park at 12:30 pm. The opposition alliance India Block has named this march 'Gandhi se Ambedkar March'.
Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, VIP chief Mukesh Sahni and CPIML's Dipankar Bhattacharya started the yatra from Sasaram on August 17. The yatra reached Patna via Aurangabad, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Bettiah, Gopalganj, Siwan, Chapra and Ara. In total, the yatra covered 23 districts of Bihar and a distance of 1300 km.
Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, CPI (ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and Mukesh Sahni will be present in the closing ceremony. Apart from this, NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar will also participate. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, NCP's Supriya Sule and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan will also participate in this padyatra.
Congress and RJD have made a strategy to strengthen their hold among Dalits and backward classes by linking this yatra to the legacy of Gandhi and Ambedkar. Congress is trying to portray itself as a true follower of Baba Saheb and RJD is also claiming to adopt Ambedkar's ideas. Congress's aim is to combine Gandhi's political legacy and Ambedkar's thinking of social justice together.
Congress and RJD have a keen eye on the approximately 18 percent Dalit population of Bihar. Recently, India Block had received some support from Dalit voters on the issue of constitution and reservation. Now the opposition is trying to further woo the Dalit vote bank by taking out a march from Gandhi to Ambedkar statue.
